Introducing Val d' Isere
Val d'Isere is a part of a large skiing area, called 'Espace Killy' (with Tignes). It is a hometown of Jean-Claude Killy - Winter Olympic Games medalist. In contrary to many other ski resorts it has never forgotten about its traditions and rural site. It is famous for the exceptional skiing, but also for its special atmosphere.
Val d’isere is one of the top ski resorts in the world providing over 150 kilometres of pistes and this, together with vast areas of accessible "off piste", makes it ideal for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. Skiers seem to outnumber the snowboarders a little but there is a comfortable balance of both sports – each taking advantage of the different areas Val d’Isere has to offer (Le Fornet, Le Solaise and Bellevarde).
To go up the mountains you can use 'Funiva' - a very quick funicular that will take you to the top in just 4.5 min (from La Daille to Rocher). Easier slopes can be found on Bellevarde and Tete du Solaise. One of the most famous slopes is Grand Vallon (on Source d'Isere), prepared for rather advances skiers. 'Espace Killy' offers you about 300 km of slopes, with the longest one 5.5 km (Genepy).
Val d'Isere is one giant natural fun park and there really is something for everyone here. There is plenty for non-skiers to do in the valley. Activities include walking on specially prepared trails, snow shoe walks, husky-sledding, ice-climbing, parapenting, balloon and light-aircraft flights, sledging, swimming, ice-skating, indoor climbing and fitness classes.
Less active entertainment includes the cinema (there are films in English most weeks), visiting the beauty centres, the casino, taking the cable-cars to mountain restaurants and view points, visiting the local Alpine history museum, or some serious shopping in the boutiques.
Val d'Isere may be a natural playground for adults but it's wonderland for children! Both in summer and in winter, there are a multitude of adventures to be had, and experiences to be cherished. Children are well catered for in Val d'Isere, with kids clubs and a range of childcare options available.
